Your typical barbell found in most gyms is the Olympic barbell which weighs 44lbs or roughly 20kg. However, there are various other types of barbells other than just your straight barbell. We will compare them and how much those barbells weigh as well.

I can’t tell you how many countless times I’ve heard the question… ”how much do barbells weigh?” I have been on the receiving end of that question many times, but have also posed the question myself considering there are now so many different types of barbells.

You may catch me on occasion grabbing a barbell and running over to the weight scale to verify the weight of a particular barbell. After all, it is important to me that I know exactly how much weight I’m using. It baffles me that these companies still have not taken the extra effort to just stamp the total weight on these bars to make life easier on us.

Well, since that day will more than likely never come, I decided to do a little research and put together this short yet informative article to help everyone find the different weights of barbells by barbell type.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

It’s Time To Compare Weight By Barbell Type

How Much Does Your Typical Barbell At The Gym Weigh?

How Much Do Barbells Weigh by Length?

Standard Barbell vs Olympic Barbell (Size & Weight Clarification)

More Weights Of Barbells You Will Find At The Gym

Quick Reference Table Of How Much Barbells Weigh By Type

Who Still Uses Standard Barbells & Why?

Lighter Weight Barbells for Women

Closing Remarks

It’s Time To Compare Weight By Barbell Type

Back in the day when I first started weight training at the gym, when you went to load up a bar for the bench press you couldn’t just slap on a 45lb plate as you do now. Unless of course, you wanted to have the entire bar flip on you. And yes that has happened to me and was quite embarrassing, to say the least.

Find some of the best collapsible weight benches for your home gym here.

Luckily you won’t find those barbells in gyms anymore. Back then they were still using the lighter barbells. Now you will find that every gym uses the Olympic sized 44lb barbell. These are heavy enough to counterbalance any 45lb plate and thus no worries about bars flipping.

But with the times have come newer types and newer versions of bars. Each with its own unique function, size, shape…and yes, weight. And that’s where I come in.

So without further ado, here is my list of bars and how much each barbell weighs.

How Much Does Your Typical Barbell At The Gym Weigh?

Obviously the first bar everyone is interested in is the Olympic barbell found in your local gyms. These barbells are used for benching, squat exercises, shoulder press, and so on.

Olympic barbells weigh 44lbs and are typically 7 feet in length. These bars fit Olympic size plates, where the center hole is 2” in diameter and are strong enough to load up each side with several 45lb plates. The maximum weight load for these may vary, but on average the max load capacity is anywhere from 1000 to 1500lbs.

How Much Do Barbells Weigh by Length?

Even though the 7” barbell is the most common barbell found in the gym, there are still other lengths. You have for example the 6” barbell and the 5” barbell which are also popular for upper body resistance training and many CrossFit exercise routines.

The following is an illustration of the 3 most commonly used barbells and shows how much each barbell weighs by length.

Standard Barbell vs Olympic Barbell (Size & Weight Clarification)

I’ve been reading various sources that reference the standard barbell with the incorrect weight and size. I believe this is due to the term “standard” being used in a confusing way, which then becomes misleading and causes misinformation.

So I would like to at least clarify this before moving on.

You see, in most cases, the term “standard” is being used as a definition of being used or accepted as normal or average. When in fact the term standard, in this case, refers to the size of the barbell’s bar size.

So to clarify this, the “Standard Barbell” uses “standard weight plates”. These weight plates have a center hole that measures 1” in diameter as opposed to the Olympic sized weight plates which are 2” in diameter.

That said, the standard barbell’s smaller sized loading sleeves also make this barbell lighter in weight than the Olympic barbells.

Here are your typical barbell weights:

Olympic Barbells Weight: on average 44lbs

Standard Barbells Weight: on average 15-20lbs

More Weights Of Barbells You Will Find At The Gym

Now I could go on like this for each and every bar, but decided not to bore you too much with all this reading and going on and on. So I decided to make things easier for you and created a quick reference table for you. In this way, you can quickly and easily find the weight of any barbell you may be interested in.

Quick Reference Table Of How Much Barbells Weigh By Type

The following table will provide you with a quick comparison of various types of barbells and how much each barbell weighs, including some dimensions. Following this table, I will then give you a description of what some of these barbells are used for. Just in case you were wondering.

Who Still Uses Standard Barbells & Why?

Unless you’re using a gym from the ’80s that has never been upgraded to modern equipment standards, all commercial gyms will now only use barbells with Olympic sized loadable sleeves.

Every gym carries Olympic sized weight plates which usually range from 2.5lbs up to 45lbs plates. As mentioned before, these Olympic weight plates have a 2” in diameter center hole that will snuggly glide over the 2” Olympic sized loadable sleeve on the Olympic Barbell bar.

The standard barbell, on the other hand, will only fit 1” weight plates.

So what’s important to note here is that you can not fit a 1” plate on the Olympic barbell.

As I already mentioned, you will never find the standard plates in any of your modern gyms. Nonetheless, the standard barbells are still being sold as are the standard weight plates.

Why are these plates still being used, you might ask?

Well, these standard-sized weight plates have been sold for decades to fit the standard 1” sized dumbbell bars found in most homes across the country. And since weights are not exactly cheap, it would be more practical to buy a standard barbell which fits your already existing standard weight plates.

So the point I’m trying to make is, if you’re in the market for a new barbell and weights for your home gym, make sure you pay close attention to the barbell weight sleeve size.

Always make sure to match your weights with the barbell loadable sleeve.

You can always convert a standard barbell to fit Olympic sized weights with an Olympic adaptor sleeve. But you can not convert an Olympic Barbell to fit standard weight plates.

Lighter Weight Barbells for Women

With so many active female fitness enthusiasts and athletes, and the growing popularity of CrossFit it only makes sense that there be a barbell that is more functional for females.

Performing exercises such as the snatch, clean & jerk, bench press, squats, and deadlifts with a 45 lb barbell are not always ideal for female athletes.

However, using a 33 lb barbell for women can have many benefits such as added flexibility, more workout options, and increased control for better form and improved workouts.

Not all gyms have these barbells, however, if you are looking to add a barbell to your home gym setup, I would strongly suggest the 33lb barbell.

Closing Remarks

Knowing how much a barbell weighs may seem trivial to some, but for the avid bodybuilder, athlete, or CrossFit enthusiast, these numbers mean everything.

A muscle pump is by far the most sought after and most talked-about condition of resistance training and bodybuilding. Everyone loves a good pump and will do whatever it takes to get there.

When you’ve been lifting weights for as long as I have, you’ve heard just about every trick in the book. And trust me I have. But I have also learned over the years what works and what doesn’t work.

If you have a short moment and are serious about getting your pump on, then you’ll want to keep reading. I know what it takes to get a good pump, and can guarantee that I personally practice all of these methods myself, and have done so for many years.

You also will not want to miss my “Muscle Pump Of The Month Video” demonstrating some exercise routines that will set your muscles on fire and create mind-blowing pumps!

So without me boring you any further, let’s get started.

What Is A Muscle Pump Anyway?

A good muscle pump is when you can force as much blood as humanly possible into any given muscle group while performing resistance type training.

In short, and without getting too technical, muscle pumps are generated under intense workout conditions whereby a muscle group expands and contracts repeatedly. As a result, the vascular system pushed more blood into the target muscle area in order to provide more oxygen and nutrients for energy. But there is more.

With this increased need for more nutrients and oxygen, the vascular system now sends a compound called nitric oxide to the muscles. Nitric Oxide helps widen the arteries which allow even more blood to enter – a process known as vasodilation.

Now let’s see how this can benefit your workout.

Reasons Why Muscle Pumps Are Important

Muscle pumps can be beneficial to your workout regimen for many reasons.

First and foremost, the psychological effect it has greatly increases your motivation and energy.

Keeps You Coming Back For More

The feel-good hormones released under these conditions are chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins give you that euphoric high feeling while working out. But even more so when your muscles are pumped to the max.

You’ll notice how your energy and enthusiasm spikes when you get that pump. It makes you look good. It makes you feel good. It makes you want to keep going and going.

So if anything, the psychological effect will keep you working out longer and more intensely, and will also keep you coming back for more.

Stimulates Muscle Growth

Secondly, a good pump is usually a good indicator that you have had a successful workout and that you have pushed copious amounts of blood into the muscle.

Why is this good? Well, because all this blood is carrying not only oxygen but also very important nutrients to the muscles that are beneficial for growth.

Though muscle pumps may not always be necessary for muscle growth, they are nevertheless an important factor in stimulating growth nonetheless. Additionally, the intensity required to achieve these pumps will without a doubt also result in improved muscle definition and muscle vascularity.

Muscle Pump Of The Month Video

Every month you will find a new video I have personally hand-picked to add to my “Pump Of The Month Video” segment. I will personally try each workout, and add my short commentary with my evaluation and experience for each video. So make sure to come back each month to find a new video and join me in the fun.

In our first video, by Animal, you will see Evan Centopani show you how he incorporates the superset into his triceps routine (pay special attention to the first 6 minutes of this video where he demonstrates 2 triceps pushdown exercises). What caught my attention was the fact that he suggested flaring the elbows out on the straight bar cable pushdown machine.

I have always been instructed to keep the elbows in, and thus have been doing so for many years. So how could I not give this a go, especially coming from someone as accomplished and well known as Evan?

#1 Trashing Triceps!

So I gave this routine a try, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Wow! Talk about a pump!

I absolutely loved the advice on how to position your hands on the rope and the elbow position for the straight bar cable pushdowns. The stretch and the burn I felt at the top of the straight bar cable pushdown was absolutely agonizing, to say the least. But in a tremendously good way!

I absolutely recommend this routine to anyone who wants to experience a mind-blowing triceps pump. Thanks, Evan for such an awesome video.

#2 Nasty Biceps Pump!

John Meadows has always been one of my go-to guys for learning new tricks. In the following video watch a routine John created that will absolutely destroy your biceps and give you a pump to remember!

#3 Shoulder Destroyer – Finisher

I’ve been following Dana Linn Bailey for many years. And I can tell you when it comes to workout intensity, Dana is the master. The following is about a 15-minute routine that will absolutely pump your shoulders to the max. If you want to bypass her workout instructions and go straight to the routine, then fast forward to 6:55 minutes.

Basically, what you will see is her “giant set” which includes 5 different exercises. You will perform this giant set 3 times for a total of approximately 15 minutes. You can perform this at the end of your normal shoulder workout routine, or as a complete workout if you are short on time.

12 Muscle Pump Tips & Tricks That Guarantee Explosive Pumps

Here are my top 12 tips you should follow in order to guarantee a muscle pump on your next workout. Some of these tips may seem pretty obvious at first glance, but you’d be surprised how many people still forget. Yes, we all have short memories.

Nonetheless, I’m sure you will benefit from all and will more than likely even find 1 or 2 new tricks you’ve never heard of before now.

#1 Make Sure You’re Hydrated

Probably one of the most obvious but also the most overlooked is hydration. Many of you believe you are hydrated enough when hitting the gym when in actuality you are not. Taking water to the gym and drinking while you workout is not a guarantee that you are fully hydrated.

To make sure you are hydrated enough, you should have already been drinking plenty of water before you even entered the gym. Or if working out at home, then well in advance of your workout session.

Just like the rest of your body, your muscles store water and require water to function. If you are not hydrated, your muscle pump will suffer.

#2 Carb Up!

Another big mistake and something I had not learned about until many years after I started weight training, was that not having enough carbs can prevent a good pump and leave you flat no matter how hard you train. Or at least kill a good pump very quickly.

Just like water, carbohydrates are necessary for a good pump. Carbs are converted to glycogen, which like water is then stored in the muscles. Glycogen is used as energy to fuel your workout.

When glycogen levels are depleted your body turns to your muscles for glycogen. Unfortunately, this can lead to a catabolic state rather than anabolic. A place you do not want to be in when muscle training.

That said, if your glycogen levels are low to none before a workout, then muscle pumps will be pretty much impossible. And if your glycogen levels are normal but you still tend to lose your pump after about 30-60 minutes of intense training, it is because of glycogen depletion. This is normal. This can be fixed with a simple carb drink while you are working out.

#3 Stretching Between Sets

Now stretching is one of those tricks that can transform a good muscle pump into a massive mind-blowing super-pump! Occasionally I will incorporate these into my biceps or triceps exercise and get a monster pump from hell.

Perform stretches once or twice (no more or it could affect your strength level in a negative way) between sets for each arm during your exercise. Each stretch should be at least a good 20-30 seconds long.

For biceps, I like to hold a bar, keeping my arm straight, and gradually rotate my body away so my arm is then slightly behind me. Once you feel the stretch in your bicep, hold that position for 20-30 seconds. Trust me it will burn. Then continue with your exercise.

For triceps, curl your arm like your doing a biceps dumbbell curl, raise your arm up so your elbow is now over your head and push it up against a wall or solid object. The harder you push the more it will stretch. Again, hold it for 20-30 seconds.

By doing this between sets, you are stretching the muscle fibers which fill with blood. This, in turn, lets more blood fill these cells and as a result, creates a bigger and better pump than you can imagine.

#4 Muscle Pump Supplements

I have tried numerous brands and types of supplements, but currently, only use one. Which I will get to in a moment.

Probably one of the more popular supplements for energy, strength, and muscle fullness, is creatine monohydrate. This supplement allows your muscles to hold more water. I do not find creatine to be a big factor for muscle pumps, but it can help.

Nitric Oxide Boosters, on the other hand, can be very effective at increasing muscle pumps. As we read earlier, nitric oxide allows the blood vessels to widen and allow more blood flow into the muscles.

There are many Nitric Oxide Boosters available on the market. Most are a bit overpriced and include both L-Arginine and L-Citrulline as their main ingredients.

It is probably more cost-effective to purchase these amino acids separately as you will get more milligrams for your money.

I personally have had much success using only the L-Citrulline supplement. I get a better pump and it helps make my pumps last longer. I usually take about 2-3 mg before a workout.

There are 2 types of Citrulline: L-Citrulline and Citrulline Malate. You will find many arguments for and against which is better and more effective. After doing my own research, I decided the L-Citrulline is just as effective – and cheaper.

#5 Constant Tension

Your goal here is to keep constant tension on the muscles being worked. Never rest the wait at the bottom or top of the exercise. Always keep the weight moving. Speed is not necessarily a factor here, but rather a nonstop smooth and consistent gliding. Somewhat like a steady rhythmic motion, or almost robotic in tempo.

#6 Short Rest Periods

Another great and effective way to pump up your muscles is by taking shorter rest periods between sets. If you are typically taking between 30-60 minute rests, try reducing that time by half. And half that again if necessary.

Top 10 Benefits of Using a Weighted Vest to set new records and reach new goals quickly

#7 Blood Flow Restriction Bands

BFR training, also known as occlusion training, is something I learned about a few years ago. After some extensive research of my own, I decided to try it myself and invested in a pair of BFR Bands. This technique uses BFR Bands to restrict blood flow which results in occlusion.

This causes blood pooling in the muscles being worked. Basically blood is being pushed into the muscles faster than it can be returned. This occlusion effect can cause great muscle pumps without using heavy weights. I mostly use this technique if I don’t have access to heavy weights, or when I am suffering joint pain.

You can learn more about occlusion and BFR Training here.

#8 Mind-To-Muscle Connection

If you’re going to the gym and moving weights while looking around the room, you’re probably not getting the full benefit of lifting weights. It is absolutely imperative that you concentrate on every movement, positive and negative, and that you feel your muscles contract.

If you don’t feel your muscles burning, you’re not connecting with your muscles. This means you’re not activating the muscles effectively. To get a better mind-to-muscle connection, try to slow down your execution, or drop the amount of weight you are lifting.

Sometimes just going through the motions with a super light weight, and feeling your muscles contract and expand, will give you a better mind-to-muscle connection before starting your exercise.

#9 Forced Reps

If you think doing 4-5 sets of 8-10 reps is enough, you would be wrong. Every set that you perform must be taken to the limit. You must squeeze out as many reps as you possibly can. When they say no pain no gain…this is the time to practice it. This means taking every set to failure.

When you think you’ve done your last rep, take a 2-3 second breather and do another rep. When you can no longer do another forced rep, try doing a few more partial forced reps. This means only performing half the range of motion.

#10 Drop Sets

Drop sets are great to perform on the last few sets of your last exercise. This technique will burn out your muscles but also generate an extremely good pump. So I prefer doing this last.

I like using dumbbells for this technique. Starting with a weight I can do 8-12 reps with, I will complete that set and immediately drop the weight 5lbs and do a max set, followed by another max set, and keep going until I can no longer do another rep. The trick here is not to rest between sets, and always do the maximum number of reps you can squeeze out of each set.

#11 Supersets

Supersets are my favorite and most used technique for getting awesome pumps. I like doing these with opposing muscle groups such as biceps and triceps, or with the same muscle group. I even get a good pump doing shoulders and back combo.

Basically, with supersets, you perform one set to completion and then immediately go to a second exercise. When doing this with the same muscle group, biceps for example, I will do a straight biceps curl followed by a dumbbell curl.

These without fail give me a tremendous pump every time. You should definitely give these a try.

#12 Proper Form

Targeting the muscle properly and activating the muscle fibers effectively is paramount for getting the maximum muscle pump possible. If you are not getting a good pump, here are some things you can do to correct your form:

Drop the weight and concentrate more on your movement and the muscles worked and less on the amount of weight your moving.

Slow down your exercise and concentrate more on the muscles. This will help you better connect the weight with the muscles being worked.

Concentrate on the muscle contraction, but also concentrate on the negative movement. Never drop the weight on the negative. The negative is just as important as the positive motion for any exercise. I see far too many people dropping the weight on the negative. This, to me, is like wasting half the exercise. So keep your muscles engaged and tense throughout the entire movement.

Muscle Pump FAQ

No matter how hard I work out, I cannot get a pump. Can you help?

There is no one answer to this, but I have learned that in most cases it is due to lack of glycogen in the muscles. This is why I suggest consuming a carb drink before or even during a workout session. Let me just give you my personal experience before getting scientific with this.

I had at one time decided to go on a low carb to almost zero carb diet to cut body fat. Well, I can tell you with certainty, that no carbs and pumps can not co-exist. After about 2 weeks, I was getting only half the pump I normally would. And after 2 weeks it was impossible for me to get any degree of muscle pump whatsoever. No matter how hard I tried, none of the techniques I listed above worked.

After about 3 days of carbing up again, I was finally back to my normal self and getting mind-blowing pumps again. Let me tell you, there is nothing worse than workout your tail end off at the gym and not feeling even the slightest pump.

So, if you’re low on carbs, that could be your problem.

How can I make my pump last longer after my workout?

I have found that 3 of the most effective ways to make pumps last longer after a workout is to drink a lot of water after my workout, have a carb drink after my workout, and take more L-Citrulline. A minute of posing and contracting the muscles will also help keep the blood flowing longer.

Are muscle pumps necessary for muscle growth?

I believe every workout should result in some degree of muscle pump. However, I don’t believe you should be chasing pumps every workout session. Using all the techniques above to generate super pumps is a good way to stimulate growth and add size and definition. However, you must also dedicate enough time to heavy weight training to add size.

These heavier workout sessions will not always create super pumps, but should still create a pump nonetheless. If you’re not getting any degree of muscle pump when lifting heavy, then you may be doing something wrong. In most cases I’ve seen, it’s due to lifting too heavy and sacrificing form.

When you sacrifice form, you let supporting muscles and joints take over the exercise. This results in less of the targeted muscle being engaged in the exercise. In this case, drop the weight, correct your form, and concentrate on using your target muscle for better muscle activation.

What are the best supplements to maximize muscle pumps?

I have used many different muscle pump products and nitric oxide boosters over the years. They tend to be the best supplements to use for greater pumps at the gym. The nitric oxide booster’s main ingredients include both the amino L-Arginine and L-Citrulline. I personally like using pure L-Citrulline as it is just as effective and costs less.

Should I be getting a muscle pump when training heavy for size?

You should definitely see a degree of muscle pump even when you are training heavy. It will most likely not be the mind-blowing pumps you would achieve using the methods outlined above, such as higher reps, drop sets, forced reps, etc.

If you are not experiencing any pump at all, then your joints and supporting muscles may be taking over part of the load. This is due to bad form, which is usually the case if you are lifting too heavy.

To correct this, drop the weight and pay close attention to your form. Make a mind to muscle connection by concentrating on using only the muscles you are targeting. This will significantly increase the engagement and blood flow of the targeted muscles.

Can I use these muscle pump techniques for legs and glutes?

Yes, absolutely. I myself have even tried the stretching technique on glutes, which was very effective. Basically, I would do a few sets of walking lunges, followed by some glute stretching, and then immediately continue with my lunges. I can tell you, my glutes were pumped to the max!

How many sets should I do?

I typically do 4-5 working sets per exercise. And that does not include the 2 sets I use to warm up and push blood into the target muscles. If you are only doing 3 sets per exercise, then you are not doing enough.

Closing Remarks

The euphoric feeling you get from muscle pumps is extremely gratifying and the benefits numerous. If you’ve been having problems achieving muscle pumps in the past, this article will help you going forward.

Join me in today’s review and buyer’s guide, as we compare some of the best power racks with pulley system for home gyms you can find online.

If you are looking for a quality power rack to add to your home gym that is affordable and won’t break the bank, then look no more.

Here at FitnessMastered, we combine hands-on experience with countless hours of sorting through numerous power cages while comparing features and reading customer reviews to ultimately come up with only the best power racks found online.

Our favorite picks and most popular racks in this review are the Vanswe Power Rack, the Hulkfit Power Cage, and not to forget the Fitness Reality X-Class. But more on these later in this review.

Although our favorite choices are the power racks with cable pulley, I have also included some half cages without cables, and even a space-saving rack that is wall-mounted and collapsible by Titan Fitness.

What is a Power Rack?

A power rack is a workout machine primarily used for compound exercises using a barbell and weights, typically heavy weights, and ultimately acts as a spotter when performing free weight exercises.

This enables the user to use heavier weights without a spotter and without the movement restrictions imposed by other fitness machines such as the smith machine, or many other cable-operated weight machines.

The power rack is also referred to as the power cage, squat rack, or squat cage. However, don’t let these references be misleading. You can use the power cage for more than just squat exercises.

Other common exercises you can perform on the power rack include bench presses and shoulder presses to name a few. Some of the newer cage designs also include pull up bars, and cable pulley systems which can offer a huge array of additional exercise options to your workout routine.

Power racks are designed to support extremely heavy weights, and require an additional barbell and Olympic sized weights. You will also need to add an adjustable bench to perform exercises such as bench presses and shoulder presses.

Different Types of Squat Racks To Choose From

Even though we briefly touched upon this subject above in the available power rack styles, let’s address some additional bullet points for each of these below.

Full Rack

With its full box design and added cross beams, the full power rack offers greater support, stability, and frame strength than most half power racks or folding racks. Furthermore, the full power racks tend to offer more features such as pull up bars and dip bars, and even cable pulleys.

Full power racks typically include a full-length spotter bar used from the internal cage area, and additional J-hooks to support a barbell from the outside of the cage.

Depending on design and steel strength, a full rack will allow a maximum weight capacity of up to 1000 lbs. More than enough for any level of powerlifter or strength training enthusiast.

This power rack uses more floor space but is nonetheless the more popular choice among all power racks.

Half Rack

If you are low on cash or on a budget, or simply don’t need anything over a 300-pound max capacity rack, then the half power rack may be a good option for you.

The half power rack is still heavy-duty, made with 12 and 14 gauge steel. However, it does not offer as many add-ons and features as the full power rack. Furthermore, the half rack has a smaller footprint than most other half racks and only two vertical posts as opposed to four on the full rack.

Therefore, if you are low on space, have no use for cable pulleys or dip bars, and don’t require super heavy loads, then this would be a more cost-effective choice for you.

Folding Power Rack – Wall Mounted

Huge space saving power rack! Just fold flat when done.

Another very interesting choice for those of you with limited space is the wall-mounted foldable power rack. This interesting design (by Titan Fitness) is securely attached to a wall, typically using heavy-duty screws and wood stringers which are secured to wall studs. Then mount the power rack directly to the wood stringers. Great for any room or garage with limited space.

Don’t be fooled, these designs are very sturdy and are excellent space savers. Very easy to operate, simply fold out the power rack when in use. When you are finished with your workout routine, you can fold the power rack flat against the wall again and immediately free up that entire workout area.

5 Best Power Racks for Home Gyms Review

The following is a list of what we consider to be the best bang for your buck power racks for home gyms. These power racks will vary in structure, functionality. Some will have extra features. These features may include added pull up bars, or cable pulleys for extra exercise possibilities. Yet also features for added safety, easy to use adjustment mechanisms for smoother operation. And not to forget added size and workload capacity, to name a few.

Ultimately, your decision will depend on your workout goals, and fitness level. If you are serious about working out and workout regularly, then you may consider opting for one of the more advanced power racks with the extra features. Paying the little extra will pay off big in the long run.

However, if you are just getting your feet wet and considering a more basic model, then you may want to look at one of the last few power racks toward the bottom of our list. These are still quality power racks, but with less of the extra features.

The Titan Fitness T3 may require some handyman experience to mount on your wall. Nevertheless, when done correctly, this heavy-duty 11-gauge 2” x 3” tube construction and 2” diameter bars have been shown to support 600 pounds of weight with ease.

The T3 comes in two sizes being the Titan Fitness T-3 21.5” Deep and the Titan Fitness T-3 41.5” Deep power racks. It is said that the 21.5” still has adequate space for using a bench. Both designs easily fold together when not in use, and extend approximately 4”-5” from the wall (not including wood stringers).

Wall Mounting Tips

This folding Power Rack requires some extra handy work for you to securely mount it to a wall. Therefore this will require some extra tools and hardware. With a little bit of elbow grease, this can be done without a problem. In order to make the task even easier, I have included the following procedure to take out any guesswork.

It is important to note that with this folding power rack you will not be fastening it directly to the wall studs. You will bolt it directly into the wood stringers (which are bolted into the studs). Here is the hardware you will need.

Two 6 to 8 feet long 2×10” or 2×8” wood stringers (depending on your stud location; most studs are 16’ on center).

Twenty-four ¼” Lag Bolts

Eight ½” x 2.5” lag bolts (2 per anchor)

The 2 wood stringers will be bolted to the studs for the top and bottom locations. Studs are typically 16” on center, but if necessary, use a stud finder to locate studs behind a wall. User three ¼” lag bolts per stud, per stringer. Therefore, each stringer should have 12 ¼” lag bolts.

You will then use the lag bolts to attach the rack to the stringers. There are 2 large lag holes per anchor.

Look for a Manual and Diagram

If you do choose the folding power rack, there is a diagram available for more precise measurements for mounting purposes, and there should be a manual included with the rack.

Note: None of these lag bolt sizes are written in stone, so feel free to choose the size you feel more comfortable using for peace of mind. A good idea is to read through the customer reviews; there are plenty of very helpful hints and tricks to make your installation a smooth process.

Some may need to prioritize cost, or weight capacity, while others may need to prioritize space or extra features.

Personally, when it comes to any type of fitness equipment, I’m the type that would rather pay more now for something I know will offer me the most benefits in the long run, than to regret having made the wrong decision and going through the trouble of having to upgrade later. Which in most cases ends up costing me more money, time and frustration. Especially when it comes to something this big.

Best Quality – Strongest Frame

Are you looking for something that will last a long time and never let you down? Then the Fitness Reality X-Class Power Rack may be the answer. This rack is not only the strongest power rack but will give you the quality workout and smooth operation you would expect from a commercial-grade power rack in your own home.

Best Bang for your Buck!

You will find commercial grade power racks used in gyms to easily cost a few thousand bucks. But this power rack is still way under a thousand. Not to forget, this power rack is also loaded with extra features such as the adjustable dip bars, adjustable pull-up and chin-up bars, and upper lat pulley system and low row pulley with bars.

Best Power Rack With Lat Pulldown

If you’re going to have a power rack that takes up a good size footprint, then you may as well have all the bells and whistles you can get. Thus giving you the most workout variations possible for a complete full-body workout. With the additional cable pulley system, you can absolutely do all that with the X-Class!

Best Built-in Spotter for Safety

If that’s not enough, the X-Class offers 2 full-length safety bars which I consider one of the most important features. This bar acts as a spotter. So if you should not be able to complete your last rep you will have peace of mind knowing you can safely drop your weights. Thus avoiding any injuries. J-Hooks alone will not offer you that kind of security.

Maximum Weight Capacity – 1500 Pounds!

With a max weight capacity of 1500 lbs. you can rest assured this machine will take a beating. It will take whatever you throw at it without in problem. Furthermore, the dip bars and the pull-up and chin-up bars will also handle a whopping 600 pounds of weight. With this much weight capacity, you will never need to worry about limitations. Thus giving you more time to concentrate and work on your progress.

Are you looking for a power rack that will take a beating for many years to come? Then the Fitness Reality X-Class is definitely a winner!

Should space be an issue I would still highly recommend any of the other half power racks. Even the wall mounted folding power rack. I have read many great reviews on the Titan Fitness T-3 Folding Power Rack and would highly consider this power rack as a second option, especially for a garage setup.

Best Fitness Racks on a Budget

If you are on a budget I would suggest looking into the Marcy Platinum with Bench. It is a bit smaller than your typical full power rack. Nonetheless, it is heavy duty and comes with a max weight capacity of 600 lbs.

If you’re looking for a very inexpensive full cage with or without cable pulley and a max weight capacity of 1000 lbs., you may want to consider looking into the HulkFit Power Rack. This power rack is extremely solid and has plenty of great features. For the price HulkFit Power Rack is hard to beat – lots of value here. And for slightly more you can include the pulley system, which I would highly recommend.

I would strongly recommend comparing both the Hulkfit Power Cage with the equally affordable full cage VANSWE Power Rack.

What to Look for in a Power Rack for Home Gyms

There are many factors to consider when finding the best fitness power rack for your particular workout goals and workspace. Besides safety, functionality, strength, and maximum weight capacity, there are many other features and options you may want to look at before making your decision to purchase a power rack.

Here are some main features to observe to help you make a more informed decision.

Frame Strength

The structural integrity of any power rack is notably our number one concern when choosing the right power cage for your workout level. Steel strength is measured by gauge, and the lower the gauge the thicker and stronger the steel.

So for safety reasons and peace of mind, we want to assure adequate strength.

What we are looking for is at least a 12 to 14 gauge steel frame. 12 gauge steel is 7/16 (.109375) inches or 2.778 millimeters thick and is more than strong enough for the most advanced bodybuilder or powerlifter.

Welding strength is important but is not a factor I would be very concerned about. Any company, especially brands that have been around for a while would never risk a lawsuit due to an injury caused by poor welding. However, to play it safe, simply check all welding spots for any cracks. If you have any concerns contact the company for assistance.

Frame Size and Space

Cage interior may be a deciding factor for some depending on what exercises you intend on performing inside the cage area. Or the size of the bench you will be using inside the power rack. (i.e. 42.5”W x 24”D – side-to-side and front-to-back).

Available space in your workout room is also very important to take into consideration. Typically most cages are 7” in height. So besides the depth and width of the cage, also take into account your ceiling height. Especially if you are anchoring your power rack onto a plywood surface or using a matt.

Another aspect to consider and related to width space is the added room needed to compensate your barbell. Typically an Olympic barbell will measure around 7” and weigh 44lbs. Then you need to add at least another few feet on each side in order to freely add and remove weights on the bar.

Adjustments

J-hooks and spotting bars should offer adequate adjustment levels to ensure a safe and effective workout. I good adjustment measure would be about every 2” to 3”. The closer the holes the more height adjustment levels you will have.

If hole spacing is too wide it is harder to get the right setting for your specific exercise or body size; more than 3-4” is not ideal.

If necessary, it is always possible to add a matt under your feet or bench to fine-tune your height to the support bar and j-hook level.

Another great feature to look for is a thick rubber lining in the j-hooks and spotting bars. This ensures a more comfortable workout without the loud banging and scratching of the steel and barbell.

Maximum Weight Capacity (300 – 1500 lbs.)

It is important that you know how much weight you will be using now and even more so how much you may be using in the future. It is not uncommon to add 100 to 200 pounds of weight to your current workout max over the years. Therefore, it is better to order the correct weight capacity now than to be stuck with a power rack one or two years from now that is no longer functional for your workout level.

For most women, a 300-pound maximum weight capacity is more than sufficient. Besides, why pay the extra money for a higher maximum capacity power rack if you will never need it.

Otherwise, for anyone who plans on maxing out over 300 pounds of weight now or in the future, it would be highly recommended you consider the 600 to 1000 pound maximum weight capacity power racks for your home gym.

Frame Style

Closely related to frame size, the frame style can also be helpful when deciding which design may better fit your available workout area.

We have 3 power rack frame styles to choose from – full cage, half cage, and fold away power racks.

The three most common frame styles to choose from are full power rack, half power rack, and folding power racks. Each rack style has its advantages and disadvantages depending on how much space you have available and what extra features and options you may require with your power cage.

Obviously, the full cage will require more floor space. However, it may also have more add-on options and features. If you have less space and don’t require any of the extra features, then the half power rack would be ideal for your situation.

Last but not least is the fold away power rack. This cage is ideal for a garage setting or any room that offers only very limited space. These racks are wall mounted and can be easily folded out when being used, and folded flat against the wall when not in use. Definitely an option to consider when floor space is an issue.

Full Power Rack vs. Multi-Station Gyms

Are you contemplating on whether to buy a multi-station gym over a full power rack? If you can’t decide which is better for you, maybe we can help.

Space

We do have some great space saver half cage and even folding power racks in our review. However, if you are comparing a full power rack to a multi-station gym you may be surprised at how much more floor space and workout space you would require with a multi-station gym.

The typical workout area with a full power rack is in most cases directly in front of or within the four corners of the power cage. Not the case with most multi-station gyms.

Free Weights & Cable Pulleys

Multi-station home gyms are mostly only cable-driven, whereas full power racks are both free weights and with the extra option also use cable pulleys. Cable pulleys are an excellent way to tone and build strong solid muscles. But nothing beats free weight exercises such as barbell squats, or shoulder presses, or heavy barbell bench presses.

Best Squat Rack Add-on Options and Extra Features to Consider

Having some extra features on your power rack or the option for add-ons in the future can increase your workout options tremendously. The small amount you pay extra now will pay off tenfold in years to come. All-in-all a small price to pay for the rewards you will get in return.

Pull-Up Bar

The pull-up bar comes pretty much standard on any full power rack. And is a must for those of you wanting to build a strong back. Pull up bars are an excellent way to add size and thickness to your back and upper body strength. And if you do not have cable pulleys, I would definitely consider the pull-up bar a must-have.

Dip Bar

Some power racks offer a dip bar which is an excellent add-on to build strong and thick triceps. Maybe not as important as a pull-up bar, but definitely a consideration especially for those who love dips.

Cable Pulleys/Lat Pulldown

My favorite add-on by far is the cable pulley. You can adjust most cable pulleys to use from the top and bottom of the power rack. Consequently offering you more exercise options than any other add-on.

Great for compound and isolation exercises for both upper and lower body and even core muscles, the cable pulley offers you more exercise variations. Some great cable pulley attachments include wide and close grip lat pull-down bars, nylon strap handles and grips, and triceps press down bars. Not to forget triceps press down ropes, press down straps, ab crunch harness cables, and nylon ankle straps to name a few. You can find all of these lat pulldown attachments in my review.

Plate Storage

Another great feature, but again not a must, are plate storage mounts. This allows you to conveniently store your 45, 35, 25, 10 and 5-pound plates directly on the power cage. This is a great space saver option. But also makes it easier and faster to load or unload your barbell when working out.

Accessories to Consider

7’ Olympic Barbell and Weights

Every power rack needs at least one barbell and weight plates to go with it. All of the power racks in this review fit a 7’ Olympic Barbell and Olympic weight plates. If you are not familiar with this reference, an Olympic weight plate simply means that the center hole is 2’ in diameter. As opposed to the standard weight plate which is only 1’ in diameter.

Barbell Collars/Clamps

For safety reasons, it is also very important that you invest in 2 barbell collars. You can clamp these collars onto each side of the barbell to keep your weight plates from slipping. Or even worse, falling off.

There are various types of collars to choose from such as the Olympic size spring collar or spinlock collars.

Personally, I suggest using the spring collars on the cable pulley weight mounts if you have them. And for your barbell the and the spinlock collars.

Either way makes no difference as long as you use them.

Olympic Barbell Squat Pad

Another great investment and very affordable is the barbell squat pad. This pad is designed to fit around your barbell. Thus creating a soft comfortable barrier between your neck and the barbell. But also, help reduce the risk of injury or painful pressure on your neck and shoulders.

Exercise Bench

If you are using your power rack to exercise your upper body, then a quality workout bench is a must. There are many types of workout benches. But if you are doing bench presses and shoulder presses or even flies to name a few, it is important that you have a bench. One that is sturdy and comfortable. But also has a back adjustment option to set various incline levels.

Top 5 Benefits of Using a Power Rack

Using a power rack can be beneficial in many ways. Here are what I consider to be the five most beneficial attributes when you use these cages in your home gym.

No Spotter Required

If you exercise at home, then more than likely you are also working out alone. When working out with heavy weights, we all fear that last forced rep and not being able to quite make it back to the starting position safely.

The power cage solves this problem as it has support bars that you can adjust to the perfect height. Thus making sure you can always drop your weight safely without getting pinned under the barbell should you not be able to complete that last rep.

Safety

Besides being able to save you from being crushed by a heavy barbell bench press or pinned under hundreds of pounds of weights doing squats, the power rack also acts as a very sturdy support cage that can withstand loads over 800 pounds without any problem.

Challenge Yourself

We all know that in order to make progress we must be able to challenge our muscles. And we do this by increasing weight load or increasing reps. With the power rack, you have the peace of mind you need knowing you are safe to force that extra rep or add that extra 10 pounds.

Partial Reps

The power rack makes it easy to target a specific range of motion on a particular exercise. This is easily done by adjusting the safety catches or support bars. These are also referred to as partial reps. You can target your muscles more at the top or bottom of the exercise to improve any weaknesses or give yourself a crazy pump.

Free Weights

Free weights do not restrict your movement the way a machine will. Thus exercises with free weights grants you the freedom of movement that is natural for your body. This natural free movement also demands the stabilizer muscles to engage in the movement. When stabilizer muscles are engaged, they too can become stronger over time. This can help prevent joint injuries over time.

Most weight machines will lock your movement into place. In turn, this will require very little involvement from the stabilizer muscles. Over time, this could lead to weak stabilizer muscles that could lead to weak stabilizer muscles and poor posture.

Therefore, a good healthy workout routine should include at least both free weights and machines to reap the full benefits of weight training.

Closing Remarks

If you are big into free weight squats, bench pressing, or shoulder presses using a barbell, then the power rack is by far the best choice. No other machine will let you use a barbell as safely as with a full power rack.

Therefore, a huge advantage you get with the full power rack is safety. These bars act as spotters to safeguard you should you not be able to finish that last rep. And also give you peace of mind when forcing an extra rep without having to worry about getting stuck.

These power racks are heavy-duty, very strong and sturdy and can withstand weight limits of up to 1500 pounds. So throwing everything you got at this equipment is not a problem.

Furthermore, throw in some dip bars, pull up and chin-up bars, and a cable pulley system and you have to best of both worlds.

I’d like to thank you for reading our review on the best power rack for home gyms. I hope we able to help you make an easier and more informed decision.

Take care, be safe, and stay healthy.

How would you like to build muscle mass with light weight workouts and still get the same results as if you were lifting heavy weights? This option would offer joint friendly strength training for anyone suffering from joint pain when lifting weights.

Most bodybuilders would disagree that you can build muscle with light weight workouts. And I would absolutely agree. That is until I heard of BFR training. BFR training and the use of BFR bands enable you to strength train using light weights while still getting the same benefits of heavy weight lifting. But without the negative side effects such as injuries or joint pain.

If you are dealing with joint pain and your workouts are suffering as a result, then Blood Flow Restriction Training may be the answer to your problems. Blood flow restriction training can put you back in the gym, or help you stay in the gym by helping you put less strain on your joints and thus continue your weight training regimen without any downtime.

Do you suffer from joint pain lifting weights? Then you must try BFR Joint Friendly strength training…

I have been lifting weights for over 30 years. So you can imagine all the countless heavy reps and sets my body has endured. Trust me it’s not the muscles that suffer after so many years, it’s the joints.

Less Pain with Light Weight Workouts

There have been many times where I would be in so much pain I could either not left at all, or only with very light weights. And if you’re like me, no lifting at all is pretty not an option. And lifting light weights is a waste of time if you’re trying to put on muscle. Well, unless of course, you’re using the BFR training bands, also known as occlusion training bands.

With occlusion training, I am now able to stay in the gym, lift with lighter weights to avoid pain, while getting the same benefits of lifting heavy. This can be great for those of you with elbow pain, or knee problems. Furthermore, if you’re like me and have back problems and can no longer perform heavy squats or presses, using BFR bands on your legs is also quite effective.

Top Recommended BFR Training Bands

What is Blood Flow Restriction Training?

In a nutshell, BFR training utilizes blood flow restriction bands which cause blood flow restriction or occlusion, causing blood to pool in the targeted muscle. This causes an extreme muscle pump much like training with heavy weights while only using around 20 to 30% of your one-rep max.

So for example, if a typical bicep routine for packing on some muscle involves 50 lb dumbbells, you would use 10 to 20 pounds to perform the exercise. Trust me when I say, this is a great way to build muscle with light weights.

How Do Occlusion Bands Work?

BFR bands are wrapped tightly around the top of each arm, or legs, or even above the calves with enough pressure to occlude blood flow from the veins but not the arteries. This enables the arteries to continue the flow of blood to the targeted limbs while you exercise, but the veins struggle to move the blood back out of the limbs and back to the heart. This results in more blood being pushed into the muscle than can be pushed back out for the duration of the exercise. Can you imagine the pump?

“Essentially we are creating an environment where blood goes to the muscle faster than it can escape.”

The science behind occlusion training is that it causes muscle growth similar to using heavy weights while using light weights. Here are the three ways BFR training with occlusion bands creates muscle growth.

3 Ways BFR Training Builds Muscle with Light Weight Workouts

Much like lifting heavy weights, the muscles are filled with so much blood they are forced to grow through cell swelling! This cell swelling, in turn, inhibits protein breakdown and stimulates protein synthesis.

Also, very similar to lifting heavy weights, occlusion training recruits fast-twitch fibers due to the high level of blood being forced into the muscles due to low oxygen levels.

When there are low levels of oxygen, higher levels of lactic acid are generated and can lead to increased protein synthesis.

Joint Friendly Strength Training: Who Will Benefit from using BFR Training Bands?

Are you a candidate for occlusion training? The simple answer is yes. Everyone can benefit from occlusion training. Using BFR bands can help you immediately and long-term.

Immediate Benefits of Blood Flow Restriction Training:

Elbow Pain.
If you are experiencing elbow pain such as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow then performing any variation of bicep or triceps routines can be excruciating. If you fall into this category, training with BFR bands will definitely benefit you.

Knee Pain. We all know that building bigger quads requires lifting heavy weights. However, with your occlusion training method, you can be back at training legs again without the heavy load.

Back Problems. Heavy barbell loads on our back and even heavy leg presses can keep us from doing any kind of leg training when suffering back problems. But by using occlusion training bands, you can be back in the gym again getting a great leg workout while using light weights.

Long-term Benefits of Occlusion Training:

Using BFR bands as an addition to your current workout routine can help you avoid many joint pain lifting weights in the future and keep you in the gym. Or at least keep you productive.

Say for instance you are unable to make it to the gym due to an ice storm. Well, you probably don’t have 60 lb dumbbells lying around the house. But with BFR bands, all you need to save the day is a pair of 10 to 20 lb dumbbells.

And if you are like me and enjoy beating yourself up at the gym and don’t know when to quit, then you may want to throw in some extra blood flow restriction exercise routines instead. This will definitely help keep you from destroying your joints over time.

How to Use BFR Training Bands to Build Muscle with Light Weight Training

Let’s start by addressing the different sizes of BFR Bands, followed by the recommended workout methodology.

What Size BFR Training Band should I use?

So what size BFR bands should you be using? It is fairly simple. I have noticed from experience that for the best occlusion in the arms a 2-inch band to be very effective. Anything smaller is less effective when it comes to blood flow restriction. Furthermore, smaller bands tend to pinch the skin more than a wider BFR band.

For training legs, you could use a 2-inch band, however, a 3-inch band or higher would be a more effective choice for this larger muscle group. If you don’t want to invest in two sets of bands, then definitely try the 2 inches first for both legs and arms. You can always buy another pair later.

Light Weight Workouts Training Methodology

Once you’ve decided on what size to use, it’s time to put them into action. Here are some basic instructions you can follow to get an effective joint friendly workout.

Load: use no more than 10 to 30% of your one-rep max (1RM).

Repetitions: reps should be performed to muscle failure or at least 30 to 50 reps per set.

Training sets: 3 to 5 sets

Execution speed: 2-0-2-0

Short breaks between sets: 30-second max

Leave and tension between sets, and only remove after the exercise is completed.

Try using supersets when possible.

As you may have noticed, just because the weights are light does not mean this will be an easy workout. To the contrary. When performed correctly, training with the occlusion training method can be very intense, yet very satisfying.

Bottom Line

Anyone can benefit from blood flow restriction training. Whether you’re into high-intensity weight training as a professional athlete, a bodybuilder, or an avid weightlifter who wants to grow some extra strength or build muscles, occlusion training is an excellent form of training to add to your current routine.

As we learned in this article, BFR training is especially good for joint sufferers. BFR Bands are perfect for joint friendly strength training, both at home or the gym.

Not only will these bands help you avoid joint pain lifting weights, but they are very practical for working out at home as they do not require heavy weights. All it takes is a few dumbbells to build muscle with light weight workouts making this ideal for anyone who wants to workout at home without all the expensive heavy weights.

If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, when it comes to weight training and bodybuilding, it is not how much you lift but rather how smart you lift.

What are Booty Bands?

Booty bands are resistance bands designed to directly target and workout your glute muscles. They are instrumental when used for booty band specific exercises, but also with squats and lunges for extra glute muscle activation.

These bands are frequently referred to as loop bands, hip bands, or glute resistance bands. Unlike most other resistance training bands, hip bands are much wider with a loop design.

This unique design helps make them fit comfortably around your ankles or above the knee area. The flexibility and various resistance levels of these bands make it possible to target your glutes more effectively from many different angles and intensity levels.

As you will see later in this review, there are 4 different types of bands available. The size, flexibility, and tension levels will vary for each band.

Some bands are made from latex rubber, while others are made of elastic and stretchable fabric. The cotton latex blends tend to work better at preventing the bands from rolling while you exercise.

Let’s take a look at our top recommendations you can find online.

6 Best Booty Bands Reviewed

Runner Up!

Our second-best booty bands are The X Bands.

I typically tend to steer clear of the latex rubber bands as they tend to break easily and fold when exercising. However, The X Bands are highly durable and are considered the highest-quality rubber latest bands on the market today.

These super-strong booty bands are made of multi-layered resin latex tested by industry professionals. And unlike other bands where the thickness decreases as the resistance drops, all of The X Bands have the same thickness.

The X Band is uniquely designed to take a beating. And with up to 5 bands will give you the intensity needed to quickly tone, firm, and add size to your glutes.

These hip bands stay in place and will never snap or roll up, so you can enjoy a worry-free exercise routine.

…The X Bands do not reduce the thickness of the bands as the resistance drops. Every glute band is .12″ thick! One of the most durable loop bands on the market – will not snap or roll!

Many Weight Options and Extras

All bands are 12 inches long and .12 inches thick and are available in resistance levels from 15 pounds to 80 pounds. There is a 2-band and a 5-band set to choose from. The 2-band set comes with 30lb and 60lb resistance level bands. Whereas the 5-band set comes with 15lb, 30lb, 40lb, 60lb, and 80lb resistance level bands.

I personally suggest the 5-band set since they provide greater versatility and thus more exercise options. And the higher resistance levels give you more room to get stronger. And as we all know, the stronger the booty, the bigger the booty gets.

Check at Amazon

Additionally, there is a multi-colored and pink colored version. Then there is the option to choose with or without the 30-Day Booty Building Guide – a book created by industry professionals and enough exercises to get your booty poppin’ in 30 days.

I chose the X Bands as my second best resistance bands for glutes due to the number of resistance levels and the thickness and durability of these bands.

When you buy from BootyCo, you support a company run by women, for women – and who designed them and used the bands themselves.

Do Resistance Bands for Glutes Really Work?

Booty Bands are instrumental at directly targeting your glute muscles when performing loop band exercises. You can even use them with other glute exercises such as squats or lunges for additional glute muscle activation.

Of course, you also need a good quality band to give you maximum results. Some of the best glute resistance bands will be of little use if they do not offer enough resistance levels for your workout requirements.

This is why I always recommend 3-band sets for multiple resistance levels. In this way, you have at least 3 levels of intensity to work with and the additional advantage of adjusting your intensity levels according to your exercise routine and fitness goals.

Booty Bands are very versatile: use them lying down, seated, or even standing. Ideal for hitting your glutes from all angles.

Tension

What makes these bands work so effectively is the constant tension it exerts on the glute muscles as opposed to most free weight exercises. With free weights, the tension level tends to drop at the bottom of the movement. With bands, however, the tension remains pretty much consistent throughout the entire range of motion. This will create a quicker burn, meaning more blood pushed into the muscle and thus more effective in activating muscle fibers.

Precise Muscle Targeting

Glute resistance bands are extremely effective at directly targeting the glute muscles. These bands offer so many exercise variations that you are guaranteed to hit your glute muscles from every possible angle. We will cover some of these many exercises later in this article.

The 4 Different Types of Booty Bands Considered For This Review

Let me explain the 4 different types of booty bands considered for this review:

#1 circle booty bands

#2 double loop resistance bands

#3 waist belt and bands

#4 occlusion circle bands

Each of these glute resistance bands has its own unique features. They all have slightly different designs, functionality.

So without further ado, let’s take a closer look.

#1 Circle Booty Bands

Our first type of booty band will be the one we are covering the most in this article. These resistance bands are mostly referred to as circle bands or loop bands – which have a simple wideband loop design.

These bands are wrapped around your ankle or knee area to perform your glute exercises and can be easily carried in a gym bag or even a purse. Although prices may vary depending on quality and brand, these bands are generally less expensive than our other glute bands.

These are by far the most popular bands used – and I personally find them to be the best resistance bands for glutes.

#2 Double Loop Resistance Bands For Glutes

Our second type of glute resistance band has a 2 loop band system. These bands have a more tubular design and are narrow and thick in construction, yet mostly made of flexible silicone or latex rubber for resistance.

These bands are usually connected to the knee and foot, or both ankles. And for more exercise options, they can even be gripped with your hand in one loop and your foot in the other.

#3 Waist Belt

The third type of booty band operates with an additional waist belt. These belts are adjustable to fit most body sizes and are used to connect the elastic bands to the belt. This gives you more freedom to move your hands and knees.

#4 Occlusion

Last but not least, our fourth hip band is completely different than any of the prior three hip bands both in functionality and practicality. These bands are made from a stretchable fabric and are worn at the top of each leg, both left and right simultaneously.

These bands can be used with any lower body exercise such as weighted squats or bodyweight squats or lunges, while walking on a treadmill, sprinting or running, or even while using any of the other booty bands we have covered above.

The science behind these bands is that it creates an occlusion effect to the lower limbs which results in a systemic reaction and tricks your body into believing you are working with heavy weights when you are not. In this way, you can develop your glutes with very little weights or no weights at all while reaping the benefits of a heavy weight lifting workout.

I intentionally omitted the occlusion band, since I could not find a quality band in this category.

My Top Choices for Best Booty Band

I only included the circle loop booty bands and double loop bands in this review as they are more functional and offer more flexibility. That said, they offer more exercise variations and target the glutes more effectively.

The waist belt hip bands, on the other hand, are cumbersome to use and somewhat gimmicky. These bands only offer a limited number of exercises that effectively target the glute muscles. Additionally, many users are complaining about the belt size not fitting all body types and being somewhat uncomfortable.

Occlusion Bands – Debatable

I also did not include the occlusion band in our review at this time since this particular design does not effectively support the true science behind occlusion training and blood flow restriction.

Even with the three sizes being offered by one company, it is basically impossible in most cases to create the right amount of compression necessary to produce the occlusion effect. Additionally, many users are complaining about these bands not fitting properly or not even being able to slip them to the top of their legs.

So my top recommendations for the best resistance bands for glutes are as follows:

Victorem Booty Band: This is my Editor’s Choice #1 Pick

The X Bands: My Runner Up #2 Pick

Core Fitness: Best Double Loop Booty Band

What to Look for Before Buying

1. Effectiveness

With the proper strength and intensity levels, I believe all of the circle hip bands and the double loop booty bands to be very effective for glute development.

I do believe the belt attachment bands to lack functionality and effectiveness. They do not target the glutes as efficiently and the exercise options are more limited. There are also complaints about the belt size not fitting larger individuals.

I also must question the effectiveness of the last booty band which uses the blood flow restriction technique to build your glutes. It is not the science behind the BFR technique I am questioning but rather the band’s design. BFR Bands must be adjustable to produce the proper tightness or occlusion to be effective.

2. Durability

The quality of the band will decide how long your bands will last. You do not want a band that breaks after only a few uses. I have read complaints about some brands that were already breaking after the first use. I will make sure not to include these on my list of recommendations.

3. Intensity levels

These fitness bands are designed for all levels of fitness enthusiasts, from expert to beginner. Therefore, one band will not have the same intensity and resistance for everyone. Having a set of 3 to 5 different band strengths will guarantee everyone has the intensity required to get the results you need from all your exercises. And this will add another dimension to your workout methodology.

4. Should Not Roll

The quality of the band will determine whether or not the band will roll while performing exercises. There is nothing worse than having your workout routine interrupted by a booty band rolling up on your body. For this reason, I have only included the best booty bands that do not roll in this review.

Consider More Resistance Levels for Better Results

The best resistance bands for glutes will offer multiple resistance levels – meaning multiple bands. Having various resistance levels is paramount for any successful bodybuilding or body toning workout routine. One resistance level would be similar to a bodybuilder or fitness model using one set of weights.

That said, using one set of weights would not result in much progress and the same holds true with resistance bands.

Therefore, owning multiple loop bands with various band strengths will provide you with the intensity levels needed to grow bigger glutes.

The best booty bands offer multiple resistance levels so you can challenge your glutes and continue making progress as your butt grows bigger and stronger.

For instance, with a light intensity band, you can warm up your glutes before starting your main routine. You can perform 20 to 30 reps with this band to activate your glutes and get your muscles fired up. Then you can progress to your medium to high-intensity level bands to add more resistance to your workout. This will give you far better results than using only one resistance band.

You must be able to vary your workout intensity levels to make progress. Use your lighter bands with high repetition to tone and tighten your glutes. And use your stronger bands with low reps to build bigger glutes.

What are the Top 6 Benefits of Using Booty Bands?

Booty bands have so many advantages other glute machines and workout equipment cannot offer for such a little package and small price. So let’s take a closer look at the six top benefits hip bands have to offer.

1. Very Effective

Hip bands are a great way to develop strong and sexy glutes without having to use weights or bulky machines. It is important to note however that using multiple bands with different levels of resistance is essential for glute development. When used properly, these bands will provide constant tension and keep your glute muscles fired up throughout the entire exercise. This will result in more blood being pushed into the glute muscle, creating a bigger pump. This is exactly what makes glutes grow.

2. No Weights Required

Another added benefit of using these bands is not having to use any weights. If you work out at home this is especially helpful. As opposed to weights these bands can easily be taken and used in any room home and easily stored just about anywhere. You can store them in a bag, place them in a drawer, or just leave them lying on the couch beside you to grab and exercise while watching TV.

3. Various Intensity Levels

These bands come in multiple-band strengths. This gives you the same benefits you would have lifting various weights. I would strongly suggest not using only one band strength for all your exercises if you are serious about toning and building your glutes. This will give you a far better advantage and more possibilities to incorporate more exercises and generate faster results.

4. Many Exercise Possibilities

As opposed to most glute workout machines or even free weight exercises, booty bands give you more flexibility to tailor your movements. With these bands, you have the freedom to move your body freely and thus making it possible to hit your glutes from many different angles. Some of the more popular exercises you can perform with hip bands are squats, lunges, donkey kicks, hip bridge, crab walks, side to side leg raises, kickbacks, fire hydrant, just to name a few.

With unrestricted movement, you can hit your booty from all possible angles, making for endless exercise possibilities.

5. Potable, Take Them Anywhere

These bands are so lightweight and space-efficient that you can literally take them anywhere. You could put them in your luggage to take on a vacation, or in your handbag to a friend’s house or to the gym, or even take along the park to perform some glute exercises after your jog while getting some fresh air.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a small and portable device that can be taken anywhere and work your glutes like no other, then hip bands are the ticket!

Our best booty bands include the Victorem Bands, 4KOR Fitness, Arena Strength, X Bands, Core Fitness, and BootyCo. All of these bands are lightweight, easy to store, perfect to take anywhere on the go, and very effective at activating your glutes when performing glute exercises.

These handy little bands offer a huge variety of exercises that directly target your glutes and effectively stimulate all your glute muscles for maximum growth.

We hope you enjoyed this article and wish you much success with your new booty bands.

Make sure to always follow safety warnings and user instructions to avoid injury and get the most from your product.

If you have never heard of occlusion cuffs better known as BFR bands or occlusion bands, then don’t feel bad. Even though occlusion training has been around for a couple of decades already, it is still not very well known among the fitness community. In fact, I have been working out for nearly 30 years now and just recently discovered this workout method myself.

Every workout routine is accompanied by a set of specific goals. You may want to gain muscle, drop some weight or just keep your body in top shape. To achieve your fitness goals, you must put maximum effort into everything that you do. Year after year you subject your muscles and joints to tremendous stress by lifting heavy weights.

For many of us, years of countless repetitions with heavy weights can take a toll on our joints. Blood flow restriction (BFR) is the latest technique that you can use to bypass this pain or even avoid it altogether down the road.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Benefits of using Occlusion Cuffs for Muscle Growth

Stimulate New Muscle Growth without Heavy Weights

Lifting Lab’s Ultimate Arm Builder Occlusion Cuffs

Features for Lifting Lab’s Occlusion Cuffs

Pros For Arm Cuffs

What Buyers Are Saying About these Cuffs

Lifting Lab’s Ultimate Leg Builder Occlusion Cuffs

Features for the Leg Cuffs

Pros For Leg Cuffs

What Buyers Are Saying

Closing Remarks

Benefits of using Occlusion Cuffs for Muscle Growth

There are various products on the market today for implementing this training method and one of them is by using occlusion cuffs made by Lifting Lab. Lifting Lab’s occlusion cuffs utilize the blood flow restriction technique to deliver the results necessary for muscle growth.

By tying the occlusion cuffs at strategic points of the arms or legs, you can create an occlusion effect that tricks the brain into believing you are using heavy weights while using only 30% of your 1RM to perform your workout sets. The advantage of this is less strain on the joints and more blood flow to the muscles.

Stimulate New Muscle Growth without Heavy Weights

Obviously, this method of training is not only beneficial to those of you suffering any measurable amount of joint pain but also great for those of you looking for that something extra to kickstart some new growth and add new muscle mass. The only pain you will feel using these occlusion cuffs is in your muscles from the super pump you will get using occlusion cuffs. I say this from experience.

These occlusion cuffs are designed to be used anytime you are at the gym doing your routine workout sessions. And even more useful for those of you working out from home with limited weights to work with. For some, using occlusion bands may be a necessity due to injury or pain, and for others just an additional tool to supplement your current workout routine.

I mostly use these cuffs for my leg routine due to lower back issues. In this way, I can continue my leg workout routine and benefit the same as if I were using heavier weights while only using light to moderate weights. These have truly been a lifesaver for my lower body workout routine.

It is important to note that there are several occlusion cuffs on the market and each one of them claims to be the best. One of the more popular and most searched is the Occlusion Cuff Elite. Though I’m not saying the Occlusion Cuff Elite is a bad choice, I would say that Lifting Lab has a quality product that should be considered.
